Sweet Valentine's Day Stats

Valentine’s Day is viewed by many as a “made up” holiday, but its origins actually stretch back to Roman celebrations of Lupercalia and the early Catholic Church’s efforts to “Christianize” the pagan celebrations that took place in mid-February. Even Chaucer wrote about it in the 1300s, becoming the first writer to connect the the day with romantic love.

In modern times the day has turned into big business, with all manner of items on offer for your special someone. We take a look at some of the numbers behind our modern celebration of this sweetest of holidays.
