Paying It Forward for the Holidays

How We’re Supporting the Military Community

At Pioneer Services, we’re always looking for unique and special ways to give back to the military community. This holiday season, we’re helping military families through donations and partnerships with nonprofits, as well as personal interactions in local communities. Here are just a few things we’re doing to help military families.

Pioneer Services is a national sponsor of the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program in 2018, which collects unwrapped toys from stations around the country and then distributes them to less fortunate children within the military and civilian communities. We’re excited to partner with this well recognized national charity.

Mountain Post Santa’s Workshop, an on-base initiative at Fort Carson, provides free toys, books, and games for children of military families in financial need during the holidays. The group is managed solely by volunteers, who work year round to ensure service members and their families have a merry and bright holiday season by donating free gifts to parents in need.

With funding always needed for this nonprofit, Pioneer Services stepped up to be a primary donor in 2018, helping ensure the store stayed open and shelves were stocked as military parents from across the region came to shop. Our team members were proud to partner with the Workshop’s Elves, presenting them with the donation and a free lunch so they could prepare for Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year.

We’ve partnered with Command and General Staff College (CGSC) to assist on-base family support readiness organizations and Army Community Services (ACS) so they can provide needy military families, spouses, and children something special for the holidays – including toys, food, toiletries, and other necessities. This holiday program is worked by the CSM on post with the Garrison Commander, with our donation helping more than 100 service members and their dependents.

Our popular holiday grocery vouchers were distributed to needy families again this year through our military relations network and in seven local communities where we have an office. More than 500 food vouchers for a free $15.00 holiday ham or turkey were distributed to military leadership and individuals. Our team members saw a roller coaster of emotions as they got to play Santa, with reactions ranging from surprise to heartfelt thanks. We’ve given more than $130,000 worth of vouchers to military families since the program began more than 15 years ago.

Local Pioneer Services team members are making surprise holiday grocery buys for military families selected randomly at the checkout line. We’ve already paid it forward several times at commissaries and grocery stores, and we’ll continue through Christmas.

These are just a few of the things we’re doing this year to help make the holiday season more merry and bright for military families. Stay tuned for more!
