KANSAS CITY, Mo.
Today Pioneer Financial Services begins its 75th year of operation. Founded in 1932, Pioneer Financial Services, Inc (PFS) is one of the country's leading financial services providers to members of the U.S. Armed Forces. With more than 350 associates worldwide, and more than 20 offices in the United States and Europe, PFS has helped nearly 1 million military families with loans, insurance and financial education.
"Pioneer Financial Services has succeeded as a result of solid management principles that are combined with entrepreneurial skills and attitudes," said Bill Sullivan, son of the company's founder and currently chief executive officer. "This has led to tremendous success, especially when it comes to helping military families. We are dedicated to helping service members reach their financial goals, and are committed to the communities we serve."
Originally started as a family auto dealership, the company has served niche markets for decades, and started serving the military community in 1986. While helping service members obtain loans remains a core part of the business, Pioneer Services Representatives also offer a variety of financial education programs, including books, videos, certification classes, and specific ways to control spending, eliminate costly debt and begin saving for emergencies and retirement.
Pioneer Services Representatives have also become Certified Credit Report Reviewers through the non-profit Institute for Consumer Financial Education. This has enabled Representatives to teach military families how to evaluate and improve their credit scores, as well as protect against identity theft. In addition, more than 85 percent of the company's associates are certified "Break the Debt Cycle" specialists who can help military families get out from under the crushing weight of poor borrowing decisions.
When asked about the key to the company's success, Sullivan was quick to answer. "The foundation of our achievements is our associates. They are extremely passionate and help create a culture that ensures success."
This culture has made PFS the employer, and provider, of choice in its industry. PFS was named the 18th Best Medium Size Company to Work for in America in 2004, and in 2005 was one of 15 national recipients of the Department of Defense Freedom Award and received the Conspicuous Service Medal from Missouri Governor Matt Blunt. This recognition has continued in 2006, with PFS being named a finalist for several Stevie Awards given by the American Business Association, including Best Overall Company and Best Social Responsibility Program.
"All of the recognition we've received has come from years of hard work," said Sullivan, "but we're not going to stop now. We will continue to work toward improving the quality of life of military families and help them reach financial independence."
