As a way to help offset expenses during this holiday season, Pioneer Services provided deserving service members with more than $43,000 in prizes and donations. The premier program conducted in several Pioneer Services offices was a "Holiday Giveaway" drawing in which seven lucky service members won $1,000 in American Express gift cards.
"Credit card debt often increases during the holiday season," said Elisa Larsen, the Pioneer Services Representative who developed and administered the program, "and we wanted to find a way to keep service members from having to take on additional debt. Providing $1,000 for these service members meant they could buy presents, maybe pay off a few bills, and keep themselves from having to pay interest charges."
The winners were: Sgt. Lissette Castillo and Spc. Joseph Treadway, both stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.; Jeremy Scott, a lance corporal from Camp Lejeune, N.C.; Tiffany Jackson, a Petty Officer from Naval Station Norfolk, Va.; Petty Officer Michael Payne of Oceana, Va.; Sgt. First Class Elliott Goode from Fort Hood, Texas; and Michael Caltzontzint, a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
In addition to the Holiday Giveaway, Pioneer Services also donated more than $36,000 worth of commissary gift certificates to deserving military families near the company’s office locations. Dubbed the "Seasoned Greetings" program, the certificates helped service members purchase food for holiday meals. Pioneer Services also provided numerous gift baskets, presents and other items to military families across the country.
"These heroes deserve to spend this time with family and friends, not worrying about their bills," added Larsen. "Whatever we can do to make the holidays special for military families in need, we’ll do it."
