Pioneer Services' 2019 Military Spouse Survey Highlights Key Trends

Results offer insight into key financial, relationship, and lifestyle issues for the military

In recognition of Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 10), Pioneer Services teamed up with Military Spouse Magazine this year to identify trends and issues of importance to military families. The 2019 Military Family/Spouse Survey builds upon previous surveys we’ve done over the years.

This year’s online survey of nearly 250 families inquired about financial, relationship, and lifestyle issues. The results were surprising, improving in some areas and falling in others compared to a year ago.

Highlights include:

  • 75% said lack of LONG-TERM SAVINGS is their biggest concern
  • Nearly 8 out of 10 are SPENDING THE SAME OR MORE than last year
  • 72% are worried about FUTURE DEPLOYMENTS (an 18% increase over 2018)
  • 1 in 3 % do not expect their spouse to still be serving in two years (30% say its due to changes in RETIREMENT/BENEFITS)
  • 33% say MENTAL/EMOTIONAL STRESS is their biggest relationship strain
  • 20% have MORE CREDIT CARD DEBT than 12 months ago. 1 in 5 have more than $10,000 in credit card debt

The 2019 survey Results and Findings have been compiled in a unique easy-to-read Infographic, along with a Blog that are both available on Pioneer Services' website at MAM19.info. The results are also being shared with military leadership, policymakers, and others to generate awareness for military families and the issues they face.
