The launch was standard, and there was nothing to indicate it would be anything other than a routine mission—at least as “standard” as a trip to the moon in 1970 could be.
Then something went horribly wrong and Apollo 13 was in danger of being one of the biggest tragedies in NASA history. But thanks to the calmness of the crew and the inventiveness of the ground team, it became one of its shining moments.
