Established in the early 1900s as a training facility, Fort Bragg is now the home of U.S. Army Airborne Forces and Special Forces, U.S. Army Forces Command and U.S. Army Reserve Command. Named for Confederate General Braxton Bragg, Fort Bragg covers over 251 miles in four counties.
In 2011, Pope Air Force Base was officially renamed Pope Field, representing its transition to an Army-operated installation that supports Air Force operations. Today, the joint base supports the 443rd Airlift Group and several other Air Force units.
