Pioneer Services announces opening of a new office in Oceanside, Calif. The location at 41 Douglas Drive, Suite 101, had its official grand opening ceremony March 16, with distinguished members of the local military and business communities in attendance.

We showed our appreciation and thanks to service members and their families by giving away commissary food and retail gift cards in the months of November and December. The $20 and $25 gift cards are intended to help military families in need purchase a turkey, or other items, for the holidays.

Our "Save the Flame Campaign," which raised more than $60,000 to keep the eternal flame at the National WWI Museum from being extinguished, received a 2009 Silver Quill Award. One of the most prestigious awards in business, the Silver Quills focus on the communications aspect of a company's particular campaign or effort.

To help hundreds of local children celebrate upcoming birthdays with a unique gift, we decorated a number of "birthday bags" for Operation Breakthrough, a local nonprofit that provides child care for up to 670 children. Even more impressive is that fact team members did it while on the clock thanks to our paid volunteer time off program.

The eternal flame at the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial was kept burning thanks to an individual and business grassroots fundraising campaign. In all, the Save the Flame campaign raised more than $60,000 in less than four weeks.

Save the Flame continued, as a donation from Pioneer Services kept the eternal flame burning at National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial until the Fourth of July. It was now up to the Kansas City community to help offset budget cuts and keep the flame burning.

The Liberty Memorial has been a Kansas City landmark, overlooking the downtown skyline, since 1921. To keep the flame sitting atop the 217-foot tower from being extinguished except on special holidays, we led the effort to raise $45,000 needed to keep the flame lit every night for a year.
